Bamboo Strand Kitchen

Client Brief

These clients were in the process of building a new house with an emphasis on sustainability. Whilst they had planned the house with the usual sustainable principles in mind: face north, thermal mass, save water etc., they wanted the internal fitout of the house to fit with the same principles. We were approached to supply a kitchen, the vanity units and the front door.

Finished Product

These clients loved the look of the bamboo and were enticed by our range of bamboo, allowing them to mix and match different types and colours. The entire fitout was achieved using bamboo, bamboo and more bamboo with a touch of timber thrown in for the custom made handles.

The striking effect of the island bench was achieved by using coffee coloured strand bamboo, on natural bamboo ply cabinetry. The island bench allows space for a couple of people to perch at the bench for breakfast or to chat with the cooks in the kitchen, whilst also housing bottles of wine and displaying the various aesthetic kitchen bowls, cups and knick knacks that come out from time to time. From the inside of the kitchen, the island bench provides drawer storage space as well as cupboard space.

The coffee strand bamboo has also been used for the main bench top and selected cabinetry and open shelving to create interest and provide a tasteful contrast to the rest of the kitchen.

The oven has been placed to give the height advantage of a wall oven, whilst also providing some bench space and leaving the kitchen more open, one of the advantages of under bench ovens.

Several drawer banks ensure storage space is maximised and the premium soft close drawer runners with a lifetime warranty and use of dovetail joints ensure the drawers will run smoothly for many years to come.

The pantry unit contains a combination of shelf space and drawer space to maximise the functionality of the pantry and ensure ease of use.

Custom built handles were used to finish off the kitchen ensuring the length and style of the handles could be designed specifically for the kitchen.

The vanity units were built in a similar style, and the front door is also made of bamboo.

Once the internal joinery work had been completed, we were then commissioned to build a simple dining table for the dining room from recycled timber.
