Brief:

These clients came to us to renovate their kitchen in an existing house, in an older established suburb.  The house was quite dark, so they wanted to open up the kitchen and make it lighter, whilst using durable, sustainable materials, such as plywood.  An element of white was important to them and they were after a contemporary look and feel.

Result:

This kitchen gave us the opportunity to explore sustainable options for white elements in our kitchens.  We were able to source white tinted osmo oil.  Osmo oil  is non-toxic, made from natural ingredients, contains low VOC’s and – now available to us with tints.  In applying several layers of the white osmo oil, we were able to achieve the solid white look our clients were after.

The white osmo oil contrasts with the simple plantation hoop pine plywood cabinetry, using the plywood edges to frame and highlight the cabinetry.

Custom made concrete and stainless steel benchtops finish off the contemporary look of the kitchen.  In keeping with the idea of showing off the materials, our clients decided a concrete bench top should look like  a concrete bench top.  The soft grey natural concrete colour works well with the kitchen and bench top is finished to a high quality, leaving a soft, smooth finish.

The custom made stainless steel bench incorporates a double sink, with no joins, creating a very practical, easy to use, easy to clean, bench top.

A small plywood shelving unit finishes the kitchen and provides storage for cooking books and other memorabilia.
