Brief:

This table was designed as a gallery piece for Bungendore Wood Works Gallery.

The idea for the coffee table was borne from a desire to design and make furniture specifically using bamboo.  Bamboo is a very sustainable product and has its own unique look, which is quite different to timber.  For more information on bamboo please click here.

Result:

The design is simple, yet contemporary and very practical.

The strand bamboo is very dense and therefore, very durable and hard wearing.  The look of the strand bamboo is different to both bamboo ply and timber, although it is closer to timber, so at first glance, it may be mistaken for timber.

The charm in this coffee table is the two-way drawer system.  The drawer has been designed to open from either side, whilst, a small catch does ensure the drawer doesn’t slide out too far.  The two-way drawer mechanism is discrete, yet very practical and has been designed specifically for this table by Select Custom Joinery.

A shaped finger-pull which works in with the design of the tiger strand bamboo has been incorporated into the drawer rather than using an attached handle.  The finger-pull adds design interest as well as being a practical slimline design.
