Brief:

Make two tables to be put into the House of Representatives, Parliament House, Canberra Australia as per specifications, to the high quality standards expected of all work commissioned for Parliament House. The purpose of the tables is to hold water jugs and glasses for members of the House of Representatives whilst Parliament is sitting.

Result:

The tables were made and accepted in full, without any defects upon first presentation of the tables.

Whilst the specifications included the use of MDF for the veneer substrate, we used marine grade plantation hoop pine plywood instead. By making this change in materials, we ensured the tables would be fit for their purpose for many years to come. MDF tends to swell when exposed to water, given that these tables were commissioned to hold water jugs and glasses, there is a fair possibility that water spillage will occur. Marine grade plantation hoop pine plywood is not only a more suitable product, it is also a more sustainable product.
